Yemen's Internal Refugees: Mazraq Camp

About 7,000 of the 150,000 people displaced from the war in Yemen live in the Mazraq IDP (internally displaced person) camp near the town of Harudh, close to the Saudi border. Since renewed fighting began in early August, entire villages across northern Yemen have been abandoned. Families flee aerial bombardments from the government army, and guns from the Shi'ite Houthi insurgent militia in the mountains. As many as 40 families a day arrive at this desert settlement with nothing but the clothes on their backs, most after walking four or five days.
